May 26 Punggol 32 kmSecond try on the 30 plus km route at Punggol. It was Passion Run in the morning, and the street was quite quiet. I started quite early at 6.50 am when the sky was still a bit dark. I tried on my new Newton shoe, very comfortable and feel great. I went a bit slow at the start, enjoying the cool air coming from the Punggol vegetation. It was the second loop that had me struggling. The sun woke from the East and especially at Seng Kang East Dr, i was facing right at the sun. The hot weather drained me out and i was fighting to keep with the pace. It was a totally different thing from the last time, feeling like running across the desert.
My timing was much faster than the previous attempt. My loop timings were:
1st loop: 1 hr 21 min
2nd loop: 1 hr 15 min
Total time: 2 hr 36 min 55 sec
Each loop was about 15.8 km and i was alright with the timing. But i was not satisfied of having to struggle through.

May 20 Telok Blangah hill 1.8 km loopsI believed this was not the first time we had done this loop. TB hill carpark -> the peak of the hill -> foot of the hill -> TB hill carpark. From the map, it was approx. 1.8 km long without considering the slope factor. 1 hour was given to us to make as many loops as possible. As this route was new, i decided to clock 6 loops for the day.
1st: 7 min 30 sec
2nd: 7 min 49 sec
3rd: 7 min 58 sec
4th: 7 min 59 sec
5th: 8 min 4 sec
6th: 7 min 44 sec
Time: 47 min 6 sec
Pretty tough on the slope. But i was happy with the challenge as it give my heart a good workout. It was definitely longer than the MF loop.

May 19 Hougang 3.1 kmWent to my in-laws house to have dinner. Nice fish & chip, with lots of vege. I told Dear that i will run from our house to there, trying out my new Newton shoe - Cushioning Trainer. I was not sure about the distance, later then i knew that is about 3.1 km.
After the warm-up, i just proceed on. The feeling from the shoe was great, it just blended well with my running style. I reached my destination with a time of 12 min 47 sec. It was about 4 min 15 sec per km and i felt that i had just started the run. Definitely going to try the Newton racer soon.

May 13 Laborador Hill x 7 loopsBig turnout for the Laborador training and there were few more additions to the group. As usual, an easy warm-up run from clubhouse to Laborador. Safety briefing before any training start. Today's menu was 7 x 1.2 km in 1 hr with 350m upslope.
After my 1st 30 km run for months, it seemed difficult to gear up the high speed hill running. My first few loops were normal but drained out in the last 3 sets. My legs just don't want to move fast. To blend long distance training & speed training seem to be difficult. I have to sacrifice either one of them.

May 11 Punggol 30 kmYesterday i intended to run from MF clubhouse to East Coast to clock 30 km mileage. But it rained heavily at 4.30 am, so i sms to Ricci that i would not go down to MF. Instead i changed my plan to do 2 x 15 km Punggol Road.
I encountered 4 different types of weather during the run - Strong sunshine, strong wind, heavy run, fearful thunder. Along the way, a blind woman asked me to guide her to the nearest busstop at the 3 km mark. I helped her out and waited with her for bus 85.
The first loop took me 1 hr 28 min and the 2nd loop took 1 hr 21 min. It was a bit slow but i was glad to be able to finish it despite the heavy downpour.
10th May 2009 (Sun). Distance: 31 km.
